2011 is upon us. The resolution season is here as well. Health clubs, diet businesses and stop smoking businesses will be bombarded with new clients and customers if only for a few weeks. I peronally have made many a new year resolutions with every intent of seeing it through but, never commited enough to it to actually accomplish the resolution. In frustration I have not made any new resolutions in the last seven years. I know there are things I need to do to improve my health, wealth and relationships. The question then becomes do I have the resolve to accomplish the goals I set for the new year.
The optomist in me thinks every new year will be a happy one. The promise of the new year going into it is that there is opportunity to improve the lives of my family and myself. There are years I have been dissapointed with were I am in life after the year. There are more years when I have been happy with where I was at the end of the year. Both are good reasons to celebrate a new year as an opportunity to improve our lives and the lives of those around us.
In the past my resolutions have been selfish. I resolved to improve something that would satisfy me with little or no thought to the people around me. This year I resolve to do little things that will improve the lives of the people around me, not only my family and friends but strangers as well. I have discovered over the past year my happiness heightens when the people around me are happy. Personal improvements that I make during the year will be aimed at keeping me healthy and happy so that my family will benefit as well.
Happy New Year everybody and resolve yourself to not only improving your own life but the lives of the people around you.
